Annual Farmington Community Expo is Saturday
It’s unclear, after so many years, just how long the Farmington Community Expo has been going on. Maybe that’s a testament to its long-time success.
And this weekend will surely be another success, as the annual Farmington Community Expo is going to be held Saturday morning at Farmington High School.
The annual expo has gained a bit of a reputation, with its 120 vendors and the 2,500 to 2,700 visitors who come to it every year.
“I think it’s the best event in Farmington,” said community education’s Barb Pierce, who plans much of the event. “It’s an opportunity to meet your neighbors, see what’s going on in Farmington and to kind of take the edge off of winter.”
The Farmington Community Expo is, simply, all about Farmington. The vendors represent the community’s businesses, organizations, churches, the city of Farmington, and Farmington School District 192. The expo is only open to exhibitors directly connected with Farmington.
A few entertainment acts are scheduled for this year’s expo, too – Just for Kix, Synergy Dance and the Farmington competition cheer team will perform during the expo, Pierce said. There will also be 10 to 15 minute Zumba and yoga demonstrations so expo visitors can try those fitness programs.
Pierce is looking forward to this weekend. She’s proud of the way the program has grown over the years and likes to share its success with her colleagues.
“I think it’s great. I’ve been talking it up to all of the different community eds I network with, telling them, ‘You should do this.’ Not every community is as fortunate as Farmington is, to have the local support for the schools and community ed, and to have so many resources available in our neighborhood,” she said.
The Farmington Community Expo will run from 9 a.m. to noon, in the commons area of Farmington High School. It is free, and open to the public. For more information, call Farmington Community Education, 651-460-3200.
