Babe Ruth baseball: Combines battling the elements

A pair of rain-outs have left the Farmington Combines Senior Babe Ruth League baseball team with just three games played three weeks into its summer season.

The Combines opened the season with an 8-0 loss to Eastview on June 3, but bounced back with a 15-1 blowout victory over Lakeville South on June 6.

Taylor Bednar broke the game open with a three-run home run that made it 6-0 in the fourth inning. Tyler Torgerson, Eric Osland and Tyler Landry led the team with three hits each and Matt Schmeltzer and Bednar both had two hits.

Alex Roschen started on the mound and worked four scoreless innings to earn the win.

The next day, the Combines lost 4-3 on a walk-off hit by Lakeville North in the bottom of the seventh.

Anthony Ferrozzo was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases and Torgerson added a double.
