The Farmington boys golf team had several good rounds at the first Missota Conference meet of the season, but they still added up to sixth place in an eight-team meet.

The Tigers shot a 317 April 24 at Stonebrooke Golf Club, the best they have scored in a conference meet in at least four years, according to coach Jon Holmes.

Chaska won the meet with a 299 and Red Wing was second with a 301, just a stroke ahead of Chanhassen. Farmington finished ahead of Holy Angels (324) and Northfield (335).

Erik Holmstrom led the way for the Tigers with a round of 76, good for 11th place overall. Holmstrom also had the low round for the Tigers a day earlier at Deer Run.

Tommy May and Tony Lalani each had a 79 in the conference meet and Mitch Reed rounded out the counting scores with an 83.

"Tommy May was a little disappointed with his 79, but I was glad to see him work through his putting troubles on the course and still post what he did," Homes said. "It shows a lot to his character to not give up. As he gets deeper into the season he will find his rhythm and begin posting some low numbers."

Ryan Kelly had an 86 for Farmington, and Jake Hanson had a 95.

Holmes said Lalani's round should help him get into the mindset that he can score regularly in the 70s.

The Tigers were scheduled to play at Chaska Monday afternoon. They will play host to another Missota Conference meet at 2 p.m. Friday at Fountain Valley Golf Course.
