Boys lacrosse: Tigers rally past South, fall to Park
Twenty minutes worth of penalties left the Farmington boys lacrosse team at a disadvantage throughout much of Monday night’s game against Park of Cottage Grove.
The Wolfpack capitalized and came away with an 8-5 triumph at Tiger Stadium, sending the Tigers to 1-1 on the season.
“We lost all composure and started playing as individuals versus the betterment of the team,” Farmington coach Paul Sorensen said. “Our defense held strong, but being a man down for 42 percent of the game will eat away at the best of defenses.”
Mitch Hilton led the Tigers with two goals. Alex Aubrecht, Tyler Jette and Kevin Clifton each scored once. Clifton also handed out two assists.Goaltender Kyle Kratz stopped 11 shots in 48 minutes.The Tigers opened the season in style Friday night, scoring seven unanswered goals in the second half to knock off Lakeville South 9-3 in Lakeville.Clifton and Corey Rudrud each accounted for two of the goals. Nick Hinnekamp, Chris Fitzgibbons, Jette, Dan Block and Garrett Gunderson tacked on single goals.Hilton and Jette each contributed a pair of assists.Kratz stopped 7 of 10 shots and Michael Thompson helped the Tigers to an edge in time of possession by winning 13 of 15 face-offs.“We played as a team with a balanced offensive attack and a solid defensive plan,” Sorensen said. “We were never too high, never too low and we attacked.”The Tigers will try to get back above the .500 mark tonight on the road at Northfield.
