Boys track & field: FHS 4x800 relay second at Wildcat Invite
A second-place finish in the 4x800 relay early on in last Tuesday's Eagan Wildcat Invitational ended up being the high point of the meet for the Farmington boys track team.
The foursome of Chad Retterath, Eric Stoeckman, Justin Hyytenin and Tyler Lerbakken turned in a season-best time of 8 minutes, 30.15 seconds to finish behind only Apple Valley in the event. As a team, the Tigers ended up seventh among eight squads with 27 points.
Hyytenin and Reid Taubenheim were the Tigers' leaders in the individual events, each garnering third-place honors. Hyytenin continued to best his freshman school record in the 1,600, clocking in at 4:31.49, while Taubenheim cleared 12 feet, 6 inches to tie for third in the pole vault.
Lerbakken followed a strong anchor leg in the 4x800 with a 2:05.86 time in the open 800, good enough for fourth place. He also anchored the 4x400 relay to its best time of the season, joining Alex Chadwick, Josh Baker and Tommy Weigel for a sixth-place time of 3:37.69.
Weigel, Mason Auge, Troy Hoffman and CJ Wynings added a fifth-place time of 1:38.36 in the 4x200.
