California man killed in early morning accident
A man was killed and another injured in an early morning head-on collision in Eureka Township this morning.
According to a press release from the Dakota County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the early morning two vehicle accident that claimed the life of 31-year old Atahan Atay. The accident occurred on County Road 86 (280th Street) west of Iberia Avenue in Eureka Township at approximately 6:28 a.m. Atay, a resident of California, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Sheriff Dave Bellows, Atay was driving a Chevrolet Impala westbound and collided head-on with a Ford F-150 pick-up truck. The driver of the pick-up was Alan Dale Benson, 51, of New Market. Benson was transported by air ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with non-life threatening injuries. The drivers were the only occupants of the vehicles.
The accident remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota State Patrol.
