Carl W. Rother, 96

Carl W. Rother, age 96, much loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather of Cannon Falls, Minn., formerly of Hampton, Minn., died May 17, 2008, in Cannon Falls.

Carl was born Feb. 7, 1912, in Castle Rock Township to Charles and Kathrine (Doffing) Rother. He attended rural school in Dakota County through eighth grade, and then the Minnesota State Farm School, University of Minnesota for two years. Carl owned and operated his own business, Rother Construction, and had plowed snow for many townships in Dakota County for years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Louise (Kasel); grandson, James Rother, and step-daughter, Susan Marlow.

Carl's survivors include wife, Dorothea (Benson); children, Charlotte Rother and Gerald (Rosalie) Rother, Leander "Lee" (Fran) Rother, Donald (Sharon) Rother, Judith (Dewey) Reinholdt, Donna (friend Bob Henderson) Koosman, Norbert "Bud" (friend Ramona Kirchberg) Rother, Harriet (Walter) Abel, Charles (Patti) Rother, Debbie Marlow, Anne Marlow, and Sandy Marlow; 41 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Clara Rother and Agnes Raway.

A visitation was held May 19 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hastings, Minn. The funeral, conducted by Fr. Jay Kythe, was held May 20 at St. Mathias Catholic Church, Hampton, with burial in the parish cemetery.

The pallbearers were Brandon Dressel, Jonathan Schiller, Trevor Rother, A.J. Oustern, Lee Kobielak, and Rickie Ries; honorary pallbearers were Dale Schiller, Dennis Schiller, Lisa Boatman, Charles Abel, Beverly Head, Jennifer Hinds, R. Jay Marlow, Patti Thompson, John Rother, Natalie Rother, Tricia Neises, Jessica Harris and Michelle Brown.
