City administrator McKnight gets six-month review
Already six months into his career in Farmington, city administrator David McKnight had his first performance review with the Farmington City Council Monday evening.
After starting as city administrator Aug. 29, McKnight officially recognized his six-month mark Feb. 29. Monday's regular meeting was closed at the end so council members could perform his review.
To aid council members, McKnight wrote up a summary of the things he'd done in the first six months of his employment. He talked about his efforts to get to know staff and the community, and he laid out some of the major and minor issues he's tackled since starting.
McKnight also developed a list of 12 or 13 goals he has for himself for the rest of the year. He planned to give those goals to council members for their feedback, and expected they would come up with additional things they would like to see accomplished.
"I have done this everywhere I have worked," McKnight said. "It sets up the most important part, which is the discussion among the six of us. It's worked everywhere else I have worked at so we'll see if it works here."
Performance evaluations may be closed under Minnesota's Open Meeting Law. However, the law requires a written summary of the evaluation be made public at the next meeting of the municipality.
McKnight's contract does not include a raise after six months. He becomes eligible for his first pay increase after one year.
