City approves new contract for Farmington police
More than four months into the year, the Farmington City Council and police officers have come to terms on a two-year contract for the officers.
Farmington’s police officers have been working without a contract since their previous contract ended Dec. 31, 2013.
The two-year contract approved by council members during Monday’s meeting is in effect from Jan. 1, 2014 through Dec. 31, 2015. It includes a 1.9 percent cost of living adjustment in 2014 for all police officers and another 1.9 percent cost of living adjustment in 2015.
The contract agreement with officers results in a $59,700 impact to the 2014 budget for the city of Farmington. Of that amount, $36,700 is attributed to salary increases, with the remainder going toward benefits.
Farmington police officers are represented by Law Enforcement Legal Services, Inc. This contract covers patrol officers only. A contract with Farmington police sergeants was settled Feb. 3.
The city of Farmington also settled contracts with the AFSCME maintenance and clerical units this year.
