Cleaner charged with theft in Empire
Brittany Woodbeck was hired to clean an Empire Township home, but Dakota County Sheriff's deputies say she cleaned out some of the homeowner's jewelry along with the dust bunnies.
The Dakota County Attorney's office has charged Woodbeck, 21, of Hastings, with felony theft for allegedly stealing jewelry on at least three occasions earlier this year.
The thefts were reported to the sheriff's office Feb. 22.
Woodbeck was one of two individuals hired to clean the house. When deputies checked her name in a system designed to track people who sell items at pawn shops they discovered she had pawned several pieces of jewelry at a pawn shop in Burnsville.
According to a complaint filed in the county attorney's office Woodbeck admitted to deputies she had stolen items from the home. The jewelry stolen is valued between $1,000 and $5,000.
If convicted on the theft charge Woodbeck could spend up to five years in jail and face fines of up to $10,000.
