Cross country teams open with time trial

The Farmington boys and girls cross country teams competed Friday morning for the first time this fall, running a two-mile time trial at the Dakota County Fairgrounds.

Coming in first place by nearly a minute on the flat course was Justin Hyytinen in a time of 10 minutes, 41 seconds. Hyytinen, a key contributor to the Tiger track team in the 3,200 and 1,600 this spring, will run his first varsity cross country meet tomorrow when the team opens the season at Eagan.

Also earning varsity spots were Alex Hart (second, 11:38), Adam Wallenta (third, 11:53), Tyler Lerbakken (fourth, 12:05), Dan Block (fifth, 12:06), Caleb Eiffert (sixth, 12:27)and newcomer Santana Perdomo (seventh, 12:51).

Junior Maricia Pacheco was the top finisher out of 11 runners in the girls race with a time of 13:09. She will be joined in the varsity lineup by Sofia Chadwick (second, 13:45), Maria Kiminski (third, 13:56), Alexis Johnson (fourth, 14:25), Sarah Cummings(fifth, 14:32), Maricella Pacheco (sixth, 14:51) and Sami Hyytinen (seventh, 14:53).
