Cross Country: Tiger boys, girls finish 10th at Swain Invitational

Both the Farmington boys and girls cross country teams came away from Saturday's long trek north to Duluth with 10th-place finishes.

The Tiger boys placed 10th out of 29 teams with 303 points, while the girls were 10th out of 24 teams with 261 points at the Swain Invitational.

Sophomore Justin Hyytinen continued his standout sophomore campaign with a fourth-place finish out of a field of 188 runners at Enger Park. He clocked in at a sharp time of 16 minutes, 17 seconds, on the hilly 5,000-meter course.

A couple of seniors cut down their times to occupy the next two spots in the Farmington lineup. Adam Wallenta reached the finish in 17:32 to place 47th and Tyler Lerbakken reached the chute in 17:50 to take 64th.

Freshman Alex Hart followed in 86th with a time of 18:09 and Caleb Eiffert served as the No. 5 runner with a 102nd-place time of 18:24.

Clayton Webb (133rd, 18:44) and Sean Dougherty (155th, 19:24) also competed for the Tigers.

The counting runners came across the finish line in two packs for the Tiger girls at Duluth.

Maricia Pacheco and Sofia Chadwick continued to battle for the top spot, and ended up with their closest finish yet. Pacheco was 28th in 16:29 and Chadwick was right behind in 29th at 16:29.2.

The team's other three counting runners reached the finish in a 12-second span. Maricella Pacheco was 62nd in 17:10, followed by Sam Hyytinen in 70th in 17:21 and Maria Kiminski 72nd in 17:22.

Sarah Cummings (133rd, 18:26) and Coutney Kimmel (155th, 18:42) also competed.

Teams 14th, 17th at Chaska

Hyytinen scored another top-10 finish last Tuesday at the Victoria Lions Invitational at Chaska Golf Course.

Hyytinen covered the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes, 31 seconds to place ninth out of 151 runners. He led the Tigers to a 17th-place total of 408 points against a field of 22 teams.

Hart once again served as the team's No. 2 runner, placing 89th in 18:01. Wallenta was five seconds back in 93rd place. Dougherty followed in 108th with a time of 18:21 and Lerbakken was close behind in 109th with a time of 18:22.

Eiffert (123rd, 18:47) and Ryan Newton (133rd, 19:10) rounded out the varsity lineup.

On the girls' side, the Tigers were paced by Maricia Pacheco's 30th-place time of 15:48 on the 4,000-meter course.

The Tigers placed 14th out of 23 teams with 382 points.

Senior Maria Kiminski moved up into the team's No. 2 spot with a 67th-place time of 16:27 and sophomores Sofia Chadwick (84th, 16:40) and Alexis Johnson (85th, 16:41) were close behind.

Maricella Pacheco served as the team's No. 5 runner, turning in a 116th-place time of 17:15. Sarah Cummings (135th, 17:36) and Lexie Laube (154th, 18:31) also competed.
