Editorial: Get out and enjoy Dew Days this weekend

Last week in this space we talked in general terms about all there is to do this summer in Farmington and Rosemount. In the week ahead we have two prime examples.

One is familiar, at least to Farmington residents. The other is brand new.

Farmington’s Dew Days officially kicked off Tuesday night with the crowning of a new group of local royalty. Nine happy girls donned sashes and tiaras as the first step in a year that will be full of activity.

And that was just the beginning. From Wednesday night’s Flavors of Farmington to Thursday’s Bingo to Friday’s bed races and Saturday’s Dew Run and parade, there is no shortage of entertainment to keep visitors busy. Watch a band, stuff your face at one of the three eating competitions or work off those calories at a Zumba demonstration. Then hang out downtown and listen to some good music.

Dew Days is a tradition in Farmington. It’s a celebration of community, a time to spend time with old friends and maybe make some new ones. It’s fried food and kids on big wheels.

It’s also a whole lot of fun.

Once Dew Days has wrapped up in Farmington, it will be nearly time for Art Blast, a new summer activity put on by the Rosemount Area Arts Council. Art Blast is a full week of arts-related activity taking place in venues around Rosemount. There will be concerts and plays, art displays and hands-on activities. The arts council’s Bluegrass Americana Weekend, for the past several years a fixture of the first weekend of Leprechaun Days, will wrap up the activity at the end of the week.

It might not be possible to take it all in, but the schedule is long enough and diverse enough that there ought to be something there for anyone.

Get out and explore. See what’s happening. We think you’ll be glad you did.
