Eureka man charged with assault
A 25-year-old Lakeville man faces felony domestic assault charges after a Feb. 20 fight in which he reportedly dragged his mother around a gravel parking area and punched and choked his father.
The Dakota County Sheriff's Department responded Feb. 20 to a report of an assault in progress at a Eureka Township home. They spoke with the parents of Curtis Lee Johnson, who said their son had grabbed his mother by the clothing and dragged her around a parking area outside their home, then kicked the car repeatedly when she locked herself inside and he couldn't get at her. He did visible damage to the car.
Johnson's father told deputies his son had punched him several times and choked him.
According to a complaint filed in the Dakota County Attorney's office Johnson's parents said their son had been drinking and had not been taking his prescribed Zoloft.
Johnson was convicted of fourth degree assault in June of 2008 and fifth degree assault in March of 2008. This time around he faces two charges of felony domestic assault, each of which carries a maximum sentence of five years and a maximum fine of $10,000. He's also been charged with domestic assault by strangulation, which carries a maximum sentence of three years and a maximum fine of $5,000.
