Book club meeting

The Farmington Friends of the Library book club will meet at 7 p.m. in the meeting room at the library. The subject of the Aug. 26 meeting is Nothing to do but Stay by Carrie Young.

Community meal

There will be a community meal at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at Farmington Lutheran Church, 20600 Akin Road, Farmington. The meal is free but a free will offering is accepted. All are welcome. The meals are held the second and fourth Thursday of each month. For more information, call Sandy Glau at 651-463-3360.

September 3-4

Tigersharks try-out

The Farmington Tigersharks swim club will hold tryouts for swimmers 13 and under from 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 3 and Sept. 4 at the Farmington Middle School West pool. The fall season starts Sept. 8.

Swimmers should be new to swimming but be able to swim at least 1 length of the pool doing the front and back crawl. For information e-mail coach Dion Erbes at derbes@yahoo. com or go to tigersharksswimclub.com.

Back to school night

Farmington Middle School East will hold a back-to-school night for sixth grade students and their parents from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 4.

Andrew Kippley benefit

There will be a benefit concert, dinner and silent auction for Farmington resident Andrew Kippley from 2 to 7 p.m. Sept. 6 at Black Dawg Bar and Grille, 3120 West Hwy. 13 in Burnsville. Andrew, 14, was recently diagnosed with neuroblastoma for the second time. For more information on Andrew visit andrewkippley.com.

From Warrior to Citizen

Interested community members are invited to take part in a citizen group dedicated to making Farmington a city that supports its soldiers and their families before, during and after a military deployment. Professor Dennis Donovan from the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs will talk about Warrior to Citizen Campaign, a state-wide movement to encourage aid and support for soldiers. Farmington could be one of the first Minnesota cities to adopt the effort. This community meeting will be held at at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 9. Call Annette Kuyper at 651-460-2248 for further details.

Back to school night

Farmington Middle School East will hold a back-to-school night for seventh grade students and their parents from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 11.

Motorcycle night

The Farmington Downtown Business Association will host a motorcycle ride-in night from 5 to 10 p.m. Sept. 13. Third Street will be reserved for motorcycles and there will be food, raffles, contests and musical entertainment.
