Farmington boys golf: Berg’s 82 leads Tigers at Shakopee

The Farmington boys golf team got a preview of the site of the upcoming Missota Conference Championships — Stonebrooke Golf Club — while placing ninth out of 12 teams at Shakopee’s home meet on Monday.

“They were able to take some good notes on how to approach the course next time and I am hoping it will pay off in the final week,” Farmington coach Jon Holmes said. “We got ninth after starting conference play strong by stealing second in our first tournament. That certainly shows the boys that with some determination, grit, and preparation we are able to hang with the best.”

Lucas Berg played a consistent round to lead the Tigers, shooting 41 on both the front and back nines to card an 82. Jake Jensen shot a 39 on his second nine and finished with an 84 and Isaac Ferm, Darby Grengs and Sam Newcomb all shot 86s. Tyler VanWinkle was right behind with an 87.

The Tigers compete again today at a conference meet in Northfield.
