Farmington cheer team advances to nationals
The Farmington varsity competition cheer team earned a trip to a national championship with a strong finish at the Universal Cheerleaders Association’s Hawkeye Championship Dec. 7 at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines.
The nine-member team placed second in the Small Varsity Non-Tumbling division and their performance earned them an invitation to compete at the National High School Cheerleading Championships Feb. 8 and 9, 2014 at Walt Disney World and at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla.

This is the third year the team has existed and the first time Farmington will be represented at the national championship.
The nine members of this team are Ali Rydberg, Alyssa Gemichu, Brianna Leondard, Crystal Vik, Eunice Adjei, Hannah Adams, Mackenzie Burns, Tianna Price and Tori Crenshaw. The varsity team is coached by Jen Kroshus and Greg Kroshus.
The varsity team has placed in the top four at earlier competitions this season. There are three younger teams in the Farmington Competition Cheer Team program. The 21-member middle school team has earned fourth at the Eastview and third at the East Ridge competitions. The 32-member elementary team earned second at both the East Ridge and Eastview competitions. The 13 member Pee Wee team has earned first at the Lakeville, Eastview and East Ridge competitions earlier this season.
