Farmington farmers market just keeps growing
Like the produce available there, the Farmington Farmers Market grows every year. And this year is no exception.
In addition to produce, the market will offer specialty items like eggs, homemade soaps and lotions, barbecue sauces, homemade sodas and salsas.
One of this year’s new vendors, The Herb Man, will bring bedding plants. New vendor MN Nice Organics will offer micro greens, pak-chol and vegetable transplants. The last new vendor, RJ’s BBQ, offers pulled pork sandwiches, tacos, hot dogs and chips and soda.
City of Farmington administrative assistant and market manager Cindy Muller said interest in the annual market has picked up over the years. During last year’s busiest days 200 to 300 visitors shopped at the market. But it’s been popular with the vendors, as well.
“Some have been at other markets and have mentioned to other vendors that they should come down to Farmington. That’s how I’ve gotten some of mine,” Muller said. “Vendors mentioning it to other vendors is the best advertising.”
Each market day will feature some sort of special event to highlight organizations in the community. Master gardeners from the University of Minnesota’s Extension service will be present at the first market, and they’ll make one more appearance before the end of the season. One evening will feature the Farmington Heritage Preservation Commission, and Rambling River Center will be showcased at another. A schedule of all special events is listed on the city’s website, www.ci.farmington.mn.us.
The Farmington Farmers Market will run 2:30 to 6:30 p.m., June 19 through Sept. 18. The market is located on Third Street in downtown Farmington, in front of Farmington City Hall.
