Farmington man pleads guilty to criminal sexual conduct
Adam Berg, who was charged in February with exposing himself and showing pornographic pictures to several children in the city, pleaded guilty to four counts of criminal sexual conduct this week in Dakota County Court.
Berg, 31, pleaded guilty to a count of attempted criminal sexual conduct in the second degree, a felony, and three counts of criminal sexual conduct in the fifth degree, a gross misdemeanor. The charges are related to incidents that occurred between Jan. 16 and Feb. 27 of this year.
According to Farmington police, Berg attempted at least four times to either expose himself to children or lure children for the purpose of sexual gratification. In one incident, Berg, then 30, called the two children over to his truck, showed them pornographic images on his cell phone and then made questionable comments. In another, Berg exposed himself to a 4-year-old boy in a Farmington park. He left when the boy's mother approached. On Feb. 13, he reportedly exposed himself to an 8-year-old girl and asked if she wanted to touch him.
Farmington police found Berg after receiving a description of his truck.
"Attempting to lure children for purposes of sexual gratification as was done in these instances is extremely alarming behavior," Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom said in a news release. "The emotional trauma these children suffered was significant, but we are grateful that Adam Berg was apprehended before any child suffered actual sexual abuse."
A sentencing hearing for Berg has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Jan. 15 in Hastings.
