Farmington man is tops behind the wheel
Farmington resident David "Chuck" Palmer came out on top of the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority's seventh annual Bus Roadeo earlier this month.
Drivers from both the Burnsville and Eagan bus garages operated by Schmitty & Sons Transit Services took written and driving tests covering various turns, stops, safety issues, smoothness and other driving-related issues.
There were 15 drivers participating in the competition. Lakeville resident Gregg Smith took second and Rosemount residnet George Kaminski took third.
Palmer, who took second place in 2007, and Smith, who took top honors in 2006, second place in 2008 and third place in 2004, will travel to the Statewide Roadeo July 24 in Alexandria.
"We use the MVTA Bus Roadeo to sharpen the skills and written knowledge of our drivers, in a fun and competitive environment," said MVTA operations manager Samantha Porter. "Family members and friends attend this annual event that is designed to create camaraderie and heighten everyone's awareness about bus driving," she said.
The MVTA is the public transportation provider for the businesses and residents of Apple Valley, Burnsville, Eagan, Rosemount, and Savage.
