Each summer Rosemount and Farmington hold Relay for Life events to help raise money for the ACS. Currently the committees for both events are working to recruit teams to participate. However, Farmington organizer Connie Honrud summed up many people's feelings best: "With this weather who's thinking summer?"

The planning committees for the two events hope Rosemount and Farmington residents will start to think, plan and organize their teams soon.

Rosemount chair Stacy Lufkin said so far team recruitment has started out slow. She also blames the weather, but said organizers are busy putting together a fun event. She hopes as May draws near more people will start to think relay.

Rosemount has a long history of successful Relay for Life events. Last summer 38 teams raised nearly $40,000 to support the ACS. Lufkin hopes they can do the same this year.

The Rosemount Relay for Life will start at 6 p.m. June 21 and wrap up at 6 a.m. June 22. The event will take place at Irish Stadium and will feature a variety of entertainment including a band, carnival games, a silent auction and more.

The next team meeting will be held at 6:45 p.m. May 14 at the Rosemount United Methodist Church. Sign up a team at relayforlife.org/rosemountmn.

"We've got a fun event planned, we just need people to sign up," said Lufkin.

Farmington

Scheduled to take place a month later, the Farmington Relay for Life also is starting to recruit teams. Honrud said the Farmington committee will host a kickoff event at 6 p.m. May 7 at Farmington Lanes.

Honrud said planners hope to build on last year's successful walk, which raised more than $22,000. The Farmington Relay for Life replaced a shorter event called Ramble and Amble several years ago. Each year, Honrud said, the event has attracted more people and raised more money.

The Farmington Relay for Life will take place from 6 p.m. July 26 to 6 a.m. July 27 at Boeckman Middle School. Sign up a team at relayforlife.org/farmingtonmn

In addition to teams, both events are looking for suggestions of cancer survivors and caregivers who should be honored.

"We know there are people out there that deserve to be honored, we just need to know who they are," said Honrud.

For more information or to suggest honorees for Rosemount email Lufkin at stacy.relay@gmail.com.

Farmington residents can email Honrud with suggestions at connieskid@charter.net.
