Farmington Rotary Club presents monthly honors
The Rotary Club of Farmington recognized Farmington Elementary School fifth grader Molly Singewald and Farmington resident Howard Miller as its Service Above Self student and senior citizen of the month for April.
Molly Singewald is a member of the FHS student council and school patrol. She worked with props and sang a solo in the school's play. She has been involved in a food drive and reading Olympics and a fund raiser for the Ronald McDonald House.
Howard Miller is a longtime volunteer in Farmington. He's been active in his church, at Dakota City Heritage Village and at the Farmington VFW. For many years he helped organize a veteran's recognition event at Farmington Middle School. Through that event he helped get diplomas for World War II and Korean War veterans who left high school to fight.
"It's always great to get recognized, but you don't always look for that," Miller said. "It's so rewarding to volunteer."
Every month the Farmington Rotary recognizes a high school senior, another District 192 student and a senior citizen who exemplify the club's motto of Service Above Self.
FHS senior Meredith Gulsvig was to be recognized as the high school Student of the Month but was not able to attend last week's meeting.
