Farmington school district settles with former employee

The Farmington School District will pay $5,000 to former buildings and grounds supervisor Mark Stoffel and another $9,000 in attorney’s fees as part of a settlement approved Monday.

The district eliminated the buildings and grounds supervisor position last year as part of cost-saving measure. Stoffel did not file a complaint against the district, but asked to enter into a settlement process, human resources director Mary Ann Thomas said.

Most of the settlement paid to Stoffel — $3,367 — is for unused sick leave. The district also agreed to continue Stoffel’s insurance through Oct. 1, 2016.

The Farmington School Board approved the settlement at a Monday night retreat.
