Farmington Tiger swimmers take third at Missota Conference meet
Back in late August, Farmington finished a lonely third place at the first-ever Missota Conference Relays. They watched as talented Chanhassen and Northfield squads pulled away and the rest of the eight-team field lagged well off the pace.
The Missota Conference Championships unfolded the same way last Saturday in Northfield. Chanhassen won the team title 495-476 over the host Raiders, the Tigers once again placed third, this time with 330 points, and the rest of the eight-team field finished over 100 points back.
The Tigers' top individual finishes came from Kaitlyn O'Reilly. The junior added to her collection of conference titles with a first-place time of 2 minutes, 11.10 seconds in the 200 individual medley and also came in second in the 500 freestyle.
Kirsten Kracke also scored a pair of top-five individual performances. She was third in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 freestyle.
Chelsea Gehrke turned in a fourth-place finish of her own in the 100 butterfly and added a seventh-place swim in the 100 breaststroke.
O'Reilly, Kracke and Cora Ruzicka joined Robin Ellis for a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay and combined with Gehrke to score a bronze medal in the 400 freestyle relay. The 200 medley relay of Ellis, Gehrke, Chloe Holton and Ellie Sundet placed sixth.
Other top-10 individual finishers for the Tigers were Ruzicka in the 500 freestyle (6th) and 200 freestyle (7th), Kendall Novak and Nikka Cayard in the 1-meter dive (6th, 7th), Ellis in the 100 backstroke (8th) and 50 freestyle (10th), Sara Kintner in the 100 breaststroke (9th), Sundet in the 100 freestyle (9th), Holton in the 200 IM (10th) and Catherine Gehrke in the 500 freestyle (10th).
The Tigers continue championship season when they open Section 1AA prelims next Thursday at the Rochester Rec Center. Top finishers advance to the Class 2A State Championships Nov. 15-17 at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center.
