Farmington woman killed in Aug. 4 accident
A rural Farmington woman lost her life Tuesday, Aug. 4, when the motorcycle she was riding collided with a horse trailer in Goodhue County.
According to the Goodhue County sheriff's department, 42-year-old Paula Ashton was riding on a motorcycle with 51-year-old Arnold A. Hinrichs of South St. Paul. They were southbound on County Road 1 in Wanamingo Township when they came upon a tractor, also moving southbound, towing a horse trailer. The tractor was making a left-hand turn into a driveway. The motorcycle was unable to stop in time, and struck the trailer.
Both Ashton and Hinrichs died at the scene. According to the county sheriff's account, neither was wearing a helmet. The tractor driver, James Kyllo, 54, of rural Wanamingo, was not injured.
The Goodhue County Sheriff's department was assisted at the scene by Wanamingo First Responders, Zumbrota Ambulance, Kenyon Ambulance, Mayo One, and the Minnesota State Patrol.
A memorial service for Ashton was held Tuesday, Aug. 11, at the Rosemount National Guard Armory.
