Fashion show will benefit Rambling River Center
Farmington Minnesota P.O. Box 192 / 312 Oak St. 55024

Farmington residents can get a jump on spring styles and support the city's Rambling River Center at a March 16 fashion show planned to raise money for the facility.

The Ladyslipper Garden Club, which moved its monthly meetings the the center earlier this year, will hold the event.

"That's what our club is. We give to the community," said president Sue Holmen. "In September we did Feed My Starving Children in Eagan. We give to the Farmington Elementary School every year.... We just do things for the community."

Holmen had been to a similar fashion show and thought it sounded like fun for Farmington. So she contacted Heidi Welbig, owner of TaylorMarie's, a 29-year-old Twin Cities fashion company that travels around the area putting on fashion shows.

The garden club will provide the models and Welbig will provide the fashions. She'll show up the day of the show with 19 racks of clothes so the models can choose their favorites. After the show everyone in attendance will have a chance to buy. The company will give 10 percent of its proceeds to the senior center.

The March 16 show, which starts at 1:30, will feature singers and refreshments and door prizes.

Welbig said the show is a good time for people who attend.

"They really enjoy seeing fashions. Seeing it on their friends, not runway models," Welbig said. "It's wonderful to see actual fashions on real people with real figures."

Holmen said she hopes to raise $300 for the Rambling River Center. The fundraiser is part of an ongoing effort to raise money to pay for the renovation of the former Farmington City Hall building into the new Rambling River Center.

"We're just hoping the weather cooperates," Holmen said.
