FBA's annual Block Party and Car Show is Saturday
Farmington Minnesota P.O. Box 192 / 312 Oak St. 55024

If Jimmy Brown has his way, every parking spot in downtown Farmington will be filled Saturday night.

It's certainly possible. Saturday is the Farmington Business Association's sixth annual Block Party and Car Show, and last year's event drew more than 175 cars to downtown Farmington.

As Impact Auto Repair's representative on the FBA, Brown is the guy who is pulling the car show together this year. He's feeling pretty good about the chances for a good turnout, too. So good, in fact, that he's got 16 trophies he's ready to hand out as part of the show. The first 150 to register will get gift bags and a dash plaque.

"There was over 175 that came last year, so hopefully we'll be able to draw that many again," Brown said. "All makes and models are welcome to show up."

Usually, Farmington's show draws from several car clubs - the Sundowners from Northfield, the local Southern Cruzers club and the Minnesota Mustang Club are just a few of the groups that have been invited to participate on Saturday, Brown said.

The downtown Block Party and Car Show goes from 4 to 8 p.m. Owners who bring their cars down can register on-site for $5 per car. Checking out those cars is free for spectators.

But the car show isn't the only thing going on. Many of the downtown businesses will be open, and some will have specials for customers and visitors. A steel drum band will play down Third Street near Farmington City Hall, and a DJ will be set up a block away, playing music.

The event also promises activities for children, face painting, door prizes and raffles, and lots more, Brown said. The Farmington VFW will hold a steak fry in conjunction with the event, as well.

"It's a really fun night. It's going to be a good time," Brown said. "Everybody should show up."

Awards from the car show will be given out at 8 p.m., followed by music from the band Standing Room Only from 8:30 to 11 p.m. on the stage near city hall.
