FHS tennis bows out in first round

The Farmington girls tennis team earned the No. 7 seed in Section 1AA and was quickly sent packing 7-0 by No. 2 seed Rochester Century in the opening round last Tuesday in Rochester.

The fifth-ranked (Class 2A) Panthers advanced to face No. 1 seed Lakeville North in the semifinals by defeating Northfield in the second round last Thursday.

The Tigers' best showings came at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles where Ryan Jara and the duo of Jess Novotny and Beth Fairchild each lost by scores of 1-6, 2-6.

The team will send two singles players and two doubles teams to the section individual tournament, which begins this afternoon.
