Fire damages Farmington home
Firefighters from Farmington and Lakeville responded to a fire that did signficant damage to one Farmington home and at least surface damage to two others late Friday afternoon.
Farmington firefighters received a page at 4:22 p.m. to the house in the 1200 block of Locust St. There were already signifcant flames when fire chief Tim Pietsch arrived.
"We had a lot of flame in the back," Pietsch said. "The neighbors' house ... kind of melted the siding but it never got a chance to get going. There were some good samaritans out there with a garden hose trying to keep things hosed down.
"The deck was intact when I got here, and now the deck is completely down."
Siding on two neighboring houses was melted and the buildings were singed in other places, but the most significant damage was contained to one home.
"We had some concerns, because the report was we had two houses on fire," Pietsch said. "Like I say, house number two never got a chance to get going, which is pretty good. We got a pretty quick knockdown on this one."
There was nobody in the house at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.
Pietch was confident the fire started in the back of the house, but he wasn't certain whether the spark happened on the deck or inside the house. Flames eventually spread to the attic, which is where firefighters were concentrating their efforts shortly after 5 p.m.
