The Farmington Fire Department brought out its tanker trucks to transport water during the early-morning fire on Biscayne Avenue in Empire Township because there were no hydrants available. No one was living in the house that caught fire after a lightning strike Friday morning.

A lightning strike may have been the cause of an early-morning fire that did significant damage to a vacant Empire Township home June 21.

A neighbor reported smoke coming from the Biscayne Avenue home just before 7 a.m. Friday. There were visible flames when a Dakota County Sheriff’s deputy responded to the call and Farmington firefighters confirmed the fire when they arrived.

Farmington Fire captain Adam Fischer said the fire was challenging to fight.
