The Farmington Tiger football team dug itself a hole it couldn't claw out of in Friday's Section 3AAAAA title game at Apple Valley, falling 49-21 to the top-seeded Eagles.

It was a promising start for the Tigers, who recovered an Apple Valley fumble on the game's first drive and went 80 yards for a touchdown. Apple Valley took over from there, though, using a steady offense and an obstinate defense to score the next three touchdowns and go into halftime leading 28-7.

After two quarters, Apple Valley had 354 yards and Farmington had 81, nearly all on their first drive.

The Tigers didn't quit, though. They took the second half kickoff and marched down the field for a touchdown, then recovered an Apple Valley fumble and connected on a 21-yard touchdown on their first play to make it 28-21.

That was about it for the Tigers, though. The Eagles used another long touchdown drive to turn momentum back in their favor, then put the ball in the endzone twice more before the game was over.

Farmington's trip to the section final was its first since 2006, when it beat Rochester John Marshall and Eastview before falling to Rosemount.
