Girls golf: Farmington's Swenson paces team at Faribault
The Farmington girls golf team is short on depth and experience and it showed at the first meet of the season Saturday in Faribault.
The Tigers shot a team score of 545 to place 12th out of 12 teams at Legacy Golf Course. New Prague defeated St. Croix Lutheran 331-338 for the team title.
Returning letterwinner Brianna Swenson paced the Tigers with an 18-hole round of 110. Newcomer Amanda Stienkeoway paced the rest of the squad with a 140.
Halea Wright carded a 147, Jessica Singwald turned in a 156 and Kaitlin Jokinen added a 148.
"This meet was a learning opportunity. It was a good experience for the girls. The Farmington girls' golf team is made up of many new members. For many it was their first golf meet," first-year head coach Jon Stock said. "These girls are committed, and they have already shown improvement. They are all looking forward to their next chance to compete."
The Tigers will try to improve their scores when they host a Missota Conference meet at Fountain Valley Golf Course Monday afternoon.
