Girls hockey: Six score goals in win at Simley
A big second period carried the Farmington girls hockey team to its third victory of the season Saturday at Veterans Memorial Community Center in Inver Grove Heights.
The Tigers scored three goals in the period and pulled away for a 6-3 win over Simley, which has now lost seven in a row.
Six different Farmington players scored goals, starting with Madeline Oines in the first period. Dani Wright and Breanna Raske provided assists.
Wright scored a goal of her own in the second, with assists going to Megan Stivers and Haleigh Zwart. Zwart and Rachael Peroutky each tallied power-play goals later in the period as the Tigers went into the third leading 4-1.
Haley Doll opened the third with an unassisted goal for the Tigers and Michaela Tonsager capped the scoring with a short-handed goal.
Goaltender Maddie Bowe stopped 15 shots in the win.
Farmington entered having scored just seven goals in its previous eight games and one in its previous two, a 6-0 setback at Shakopee last Thursday and a 1-1 tie at home against Irondale last Tuesday.
Irondale struck first just nine seconds into the game, but was stopped on its next 39 shots over the next 58 minutes by Tiger goaltender Molly Singewald.
Raske tied the game with a goal midway through the first period. Oines provided the assist.
The Tigers hosted Holy Angels Tuesday and are on the road at No. 3-ranked (Class 1A) Red Wing tonight.
