Missing three varsity contributors from a season ago, the short-handed Farmington gymnastics team placed third in its season debut at the Winter Warm-up Saturday at the YMCA in Austin.

Returning state meet qualifier Kylie Wharton and letter-winners Tahra Eckert and Kenzie McCuddin were missing from the lineup for the Tigers, who scored 123.8 points. The host Packers won the seven-team meet with 141.15 points and Rochester Century was second with 133.55 points.

“I was proud of the girls on Saturday. We had a very good start and we can only improve from where we start,” Farmington coach Lynn Bauman said.

Amanda Davenport was the Tigers’ highest place-winner in the varsity competition. She placed third in the balance beam with a score of 8.7.

The Farmington JV team earned second with a score of 105.65.

Sidney Comes won the JV vault with an 8.3. Teammate Kyla Bauman was right behind in second with an 8.2 and Samantha Maynard was fifth with an 8.0.

Ashley Ellefson placed fourth in the JV balance beam and Elizabeth Welter was fifth in the JV floor exercise.

“Our theme this year is the John Wooden quote ‘Make each day your masterpiece,’” Bauman said. “I’m looking forward to watching our girls improve their masterpiece.”

The Tigers compete again next Thursday at Lakeville North.
