Herbert R. Beenken, 87
Herbert R. Beenken, age 87, of Titonka, Iowa, died peacefully on Feb. 27, 2009 at Titonka Care Center, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Monday March 2, 2009, at Ramsey Reformed Church in Titonka.
Herbert Ray Beenken was born to Warner and Mattie (Sonnenberg) Beenken on Febr. 19, 1922, and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age.
He attended school at German no. 5 in Titonka, and served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1946 in Japan.
On Dec. 30, 1947, Herbert married Marvella Johnson. To this union four sons were born. Herbert was a farmer until he retired in 1984. On September 26, 1972, Marvella passed away.
On March 14, 1976, Herbert married Juniece Beenken.
Herbert was a member of the Gideon's and enjoyed serving at the local churches, singing with the octet from Ledyard and the Sloe-Notes, sharing his faith, and spending time with his family.
Herbert is survived by his wife of 32 years, Juniece; sons, Paul (Cheryl) of Buffalo Center, Roy (Julie) of Farmington, Ray (Ann) of Ft. Dodge and Mark (Lynn) of Buffalo Center; stepson Lee (Becky) of Titonka, stepdaughter-in-laws, Cindy Beenken of Titonka and Yvonne Beenken of Lake Mills; 18 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; six step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren; brothers, Gilbert of Milwaukee, Orville (Norma) of Algona, and Leonard (LaVonne) of Streater, Ill., and many nieces and nephews.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, two stepsons Darrell Beenken and David Beenken and one sister-in-law, Juanita Beenken.
