Hospital Foundation prepares for golf outing
Foundation's 30th golf event remembering Al & Laurie Hein scheduled June 13
Hudson Hospital Foundation prepares to celebrate the 30th anniversary celebration of the Al Hein Memorial Golf Tournament June 13 and pays tribute to its founders.
The late Al and Laurie Hein were two philanthropic people who believed in giving back to the community in which they lived. Hudson was no exception. Upon arrival in 1970, Al, then at age 59, knew he wanted to stay active as he was approaching retirement.
Their home in St. Croix Cove was a place of solitude and beauty for the couple, not to mention the starting point of many new friendships.
Just a few years had passed and Al Hein became the new man in town and was quickly recruited to serve on community boards. It wasn't until the request came from the local hospital that Hein found his calling.
He drove the force to execute the fundraising effort for the hospital which officially chartered a charitable foundation in 1977. Years of annual appeals to fellow friends, business colleagues, and residents were very successful because the requests came directly from Al Hein.
Then another fundraising strategy was introduced to Al Hein, which today bears his name -- golf tournament. No one in Hudson would have known back then that a golf event could raise substantial charitable dollars for an organization. But Hein and his Hudson partners made it happen and the rest is history.
Through their time, gifts and charitable efforts, Al and Laurie Hein redefined what it meant to give back to the community. Their vision to improve the common good has impacted many lives and organizations. Decades after their passing, their legacy lives on and the impact they created for the Hudson community will be enjoyed by many generations to come.
In the next four weeks, the Hudson community will have the opportunity to learn more about Al and Laurie Hein's legacy through Hudson Hospital Foundation traveling banners to be displayed in various locations of the hospital's philanthropic partners: Carpenter Nature Center, Phipps Center For The Arts and YMCA - St. Croix Valley.
The Hudson Hospital Foundation hosts the 30th anniversary celebration of the Al Hein Memorial Golf Tournament on Monday, June 13, at Hudson Golf Club. The tournament will have two flights: Morning - $70/player and afternoon - $125/player, as well as a celebration dinner and silent auction at 5:30 p.m.
Past event volunteers are invited to the dinner celebration, as a free guest, compliments of the Al and Laurie Hein Trust in recognition of their many years of service. The dinner celebration will be held outdoors in the golf club's new pole barn in remembrance of "The Big White Tent" of years past.
