Hotel would be good for Farmington
Farmington Minnesota P.O. Box 192 / 312 Oak St. 55024

That a recent feasibility study found a market for a hotel in Farmington shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. There are plenty of people who have been saying for years that the city needs a place for out-of-town visitors to stay.

A hotel would make it easier for local athletic associations to draw teams from far-flung locations to its tournaments. It would give businesses in the industrial park a place to host visitors. And if you don’t want your in-laws to stay with you when they visit at Christmas? Here, finally, is your solution.

There has been talk before about building a hotel in the city, but never anything that turned into a concrete project. It’s possible the latest proposal will go that way, too, but there are some reasons to be optimistic.

For one thing, Farmington is a bigger city than it was last time the subject got widespread attention. And it will only get bigger as the housing market picks up steam.

Then, there’s that feasibility study. According to the study, there is a market in Farmington for a hotel with up to 36 units. That’s not huge — it’s smaller than the smallest hotel currently located in the Farmington area — but it’s a start.

There are still plenty of steps between now and Grand Opening day, of course. But we hope that day comes. A hotel would be good for Farmington. It would create possibilities that don’t exist now.

It’s an exciting prospect, and we look forward to it.
