Live Blog: Stillwater (18-8) vs. Farmington (17-4) at Class 3A State softball
11:12 a.m. - The grounds crew has been working overtime and we're just about to get the opening round of the Class 3A state tournament started at Caswell Park in North Mankato. Heavy rain from about nine to 10 left all six fields very wet, but an hour of maintenance has them all in playing condition.
The Tigers are in the first-base dugout and warming up in the outfield grass.
First pitch is expected within the half hour.
The winner will take on the winner - and the loser will take on the loser - of the other first-round game between Bloomington Jefferson and Mankato East. If the Tigers face Jefferson, the game won't be played until tomorrow morning due to Jefferson's graduation tonight in Bloomington. Mankato East also has its graduation tonight, but will still play its second-round game at 3 o'clock.
The Mankato Happy Chef was delicious.
Check back for in-game updates.
11:40 a.m. - Just watched Stillwater pitcher Hannah Heacox warm up in front of the dugout. She throws very hard. Some quick Googling reveals she threw a one-hitter in Stillwater's section clincher last week. Could be a big challenge for the Tiger hitters.
My prediction after watching warm-ups: It's going to have to be a low-scoring game for Farmington to win. Ashley Betzold is going to have to match Heacox pitch-for-pitch and the offense is going to have to capitalized on any chances it gets. Let's hope for a 2-1 kind of game.

Top 1: Double, single, sacrifice fly, 1-0 Stillwater
After 1 1/2, still 1-0
After 2, 1-0 Stillwater. Five of six Tiger outs at the plate are via strikeout.
Top 3: Stillwater gets two on with one out, but a 1-4-2 double play on a bunt ends with catcher Allie Rice tagging out a runner at the plate to end the inning.
Bottom 3: Tigers go 1-2-3 again, still 1-0
Fourth: Stillwater scores three more runs, one on a line drive dropped by the left fielder and two more on a base hit to right. The Ponies have been hitting the ball hard all game and the Tigers have no hits through four.
Fifth: Tigers go 1-2-3 in the fifth, still no hits, nine strikeouts, still 4-0.
A couple hits and an error nets Stillwater two more runs. It's 6-0 heading to the bottom of the sixth.
Bottom 6: Farmington goes 1-2-3, still being no-hit heading to the seventh. Betzold and Rice due up.
Top 7: Stillwater has four more runs on three hits and three errors. Now 10-0 and still only one out.
Mankato East leads Jefferson, 1-0. If that score holds, the Tigers will face the Jaguars in the consolation round tomorrow morning.
Bottom 7: 1-2-3, 11 strikeouts, Tigers get no-hit.
11-0 Stillwater. The Tigers play Jefferson tomorrow morning.
