Man charged with DWI with 11-year-old in the car
A 32-year-old Faribault man has been charged with driving drunk and without a license with an 11-year-old child in the car.
A Dakota County Sheriff's deputy stopped Bruce Don Degroot around 9 p.m. May 30 after noticing him weaving in his lane and driving without a seatbelt on 170th Street West in Castle Rock Township. According to a complaint filed last week in the Dakota County Attorney's office the deputy saw Degoot put his seatbelt on before he pulled over. He also reportedly noticed Degroot reaching behind the front passenger seat.
The deputy smelled alcohol when he talked to Degroot, who originally said he did not have a driver's license with him. When the deputy noticed a wallet on the floor behind the passenger seat Degroot eventually admitted it was his and said his driver's license had been revoked.
Degroot failed field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test and an intoxilyzer test showed a blood alcohol content of .08.
Degroot was convicted of DWI in May of 2008.
If convicted on either of the second degree DWI charges he currently faces he could spend up to a year in jail and face fines of up to $3,000.
