Martin gets a pair of July 4 wins

Farmington's Ricky Martin earned a pair of wins in Fourth of July racing at Raceway Park in Shakopee.

In the Turtles Bar & Grill Wild'n'Crazy Figure-8s, it didn't take long for the group to start mixing it up in the X with several multi-lap near misses as the field slowly began to spread out over the first feature. Martin continued to add to his wins, followed by Mark Bronstad of Maple Plain in second, and Hastings driver Dave Nogle in third.

The flagpole race feature showed fans that these cars can take a serious beating when they circle around that flagpole on the front straightaway. On the last lap, Corcoran driver Jerry Ziemiecki snapped a wheel while making that tight turn around the pole, bringing out a caution and setting up a shootout finish between Martin and fan favorite Dennis "The Manace" Barta of Richfield. Martin got the jump at the restart after Barta misjudged, opening the door for Louie Ansolabehere of Minnetoka to move to second, and Mankato's Todd Tacheny to take third.

With Martin leading the group for the win, Barta had to settle for fourth.
