Keri Pietsch has been busy since last June. As Miss Farmington, she has been Farmington's official representative at events around the state. She has attended pageants, ridden in parades and done a whole lot of smiling and waving.

For her trouble she got a tiara, a $1,500 scholarship and 12 months of experiences she will remember for the rest of her life.

That's coming to an end, though. As of Wednesday night, her schedule is a lot more open.

Pietsch, a 2010 graduate of Farmington High School who just finished her first year at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, crowned her successor this week. We talked with her Monday about her experiences over the past year.

You've been Miss Farmington for the past year. Why did you get involved in the competition to start with?

I mainly wanted to be in the competition because of the scholarship. The scholarship is a great scholarship. It's basically bigger than any of the ones that I got from the high school. That was the main purpose of being a part of it. I also saw it as a fun opportunity, something do do with my friends. I just went into it to have fun.

I was also a part of the Little Miss Farmington pageant when I was in kindergarten and I was the First Princess. I had fun doing that, so I wanted to see what it would be like to run for the Miss.

So, between you being First Princess before, and your sister was Miss Farmington before you, you had a pretty good idea what was involved here before you got into it.

Yes, I did.

What's the past year been like for you?

It's been a lot of fun. I've made many new relationships, friendships with girls from other towns. I've also become a better speaker because of it. I think it really is a great experience to go out, see other communities, what they're like. To meet other girls that are very nice. I had a great time also with the girls, the first and second Princess. We just had fun. It's been a great experience. The parades. Going to other pageants. We just had a good time.

What's the past year been like, your schedule as far as other parades, other pageants?

I've been very busy. I went to school for the past year in Wisconsin, in Eau Claire. It's kind of hectic to make it to everything. But for the scheduling for the parades, most of the parades were during the summer. Basically I had a parade almost every other weekend, attending other pageants as well, when other towns were having their celebrations, that's when their pageants would be. Some places would have brunch or a tea or something to go to and you meet and you exchange buttons with all the other girls and you see what their experience was like as well.

You said a parade about every other weekend. How many parades do you think you've done in the past year?

I would say about five or six.

Does your wrist wear out from all that waving?

Not really. More the smiling. I'm a happy person. I'm outgoing. I like to have fun. I guess my hand or my wrist didn't get too tired.

What was your favorite event of the past year? What was your favorite thing you were a part of?

My favorite things would probably have to be our own celebration in Farmington. I really enjoyed attending all the events. I got to go to Kiss the Pig. We were in the parade, the bed races. Just being a part of the community. That was my favorite part.

And you'll be back this year to crown a new Miss Farmington?

I will be at the pageant. I will also be emceeing the fun fashion portion of it. This year for the pageant, the previous royalty, me and the two Princesses and the Little Misses, are also in the dance with the contestants.

Overall its sounds like it's been a pretty good experience for you.

It's been a great experience.
