Dew Days/Farmington Royalty

The Farmington Royal Ambassador Program and Farmington Dew Days Committee will unveil the new Farmington Royalty Float May 10, 6 p.m., at the Farmington High School. Current and past ambassadors and candidates have worked to raise the funds needed to purchase and retro-fit the float which will make its debut at the West St. Paul Parade on May 18.

Having the float will allow the ambassadors to participate in more parades and ride together in their mission to promote Farmington, Empire, Castle Rock, Eureka and its annual Dew Days Celebration.

After the float unveiling this year's 2013 Farmington Ambassador Program Candidates will participate in the first ever "Meet the Candidates" event. Each candidate will take 90 seconds to introduce themselves to all in attendance. This event will start at 7 p.m. in the FHS Cafeteria/Commons. The public is welcome to attend both of the events.

Trinity Terrace

The 19th Annual Trinity Golf Classic is coming up on Monday, June 10th. If you are interested in golfing, volunteering or donating to the event, please call Joy at 651-460-1166.

Farmington Yellow Ribbon Network

The Yellow Ribbon Network held its last Veteran Dinner on May 6. Thank you to Trinity Care Center for hosting.

We also recognized Farmington graduates entering the Armed Forces before the dinner was served. Thank you to our graduates willing to serve their country!

We are looking for volunteer to help with cleaning and yard work on June 1 and June 29, from 9-11a.m. Her husband comes home from Afghanistan in July and we want their house to be all spring cleaned. Contact 651-460-2248 if you are willing to help.

Hold the date of Dec. 6 for the Farmington Yellow Ribbon Network fifth Anniversary Celebration. More details to come but we will have a wonderful evening celebrating the last five years of supporting veterans and military families!

Farmington Food Shelf

This Saturday, May 11 is the nationwide Association of Letter Carriers food drive with the goal of eliminating hunger in America. The one-day effort is called Stamp Out Hunger. Mail carriers pick up the food from donors on their normal routes on the day of the drive. The local Farmington Letter Carriers have always made sure the food collected goes to the Farmington Food Shelf and for that we are grateful. Please remember to set out your food donations in the plastic bags provided on Saturday, May 11, before your mail man arrives at your mailbox!

We are looking for volunteers to help sort and pack the donated boxed and canned food on Monday, May 13. Please consider coming to the Farmington Food Shelf at the Instructional Service Center, 510 Walnut St., Farmington anytime from 4:30-8:00 p.m. We will be working in the south gym. Thank you!

Farmington VFW

The VFW and Ladies Auxiliary will meet May 11.

On May 17, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary will be out on the streets of Farmington with Poppies. We accept a free will offering. The money received will be used to help support our veterans.

A steak fry to benefit the VFW Men's and Ladies Auxiliaries will be held May 18. The menu includes steak, baked potato and salad. Serving will be from 5-8 p.m. at the VFW Club in Farmington.

The back room of the VFW Club is available for wedding receptions and other events. Call the VFW at 651-460-6888.

On Thursday, May 23, the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary units will meet to make wreaths to lay on the graves of veterans for Memorial Day.

Farmington American Legion

The Farmington American Legion Auxiliary Unit 189 will distribute Poppies to the community on Friday, May 24. Free-will offerings will be accepted for the poppies. All of the proceeds raised by poppy distribution go to veterans. Please consider a donation to the American Legion Auxiliary for our veterans.

The Farmington Sons of the American Legion has cancelled its final omelet breakfast for the year. The SAL is considering relocating the breakfasts in the future. Thank you, Farmington, for supporting our breakfasts for more than a decade. The funds we raised during the omelet breakfasts have been used to support our veterans, our community and our children and we are grateful for your contributions.

Memorial Day services will be held Sunday, May 26, 10:30 a.m., at Farmington Lutheran Cemetery and 2 p.m. at Castle Rock Cemetery; and Monday, May 27, 10 a.m., at Corinthian Cemetery. Please join us in remembering the men and women who have died for our freedom.
