Mustard and eggs a recipe for trouble for Farmington man
A dispute over on-street parking has landed an 18-year-old Farmington man in trouble with the law.
Helbert Antonio Zelaya has been charged with a felony count of criminal property damage after he allegedly attacked a neighbor's car with mustard, eggs and a key in a series of incidents in 2011.
Farmington police got involved in the situation in November of 2011 after receiving a report of vandalism to the vehicle. The vehicle had been sprayed with mustard.
The owner of the vehicle had put up a surveillance camera after an earlier incident, and the video showed an individual later identified as Zelaya approaching the car and spraying mustard.
The car's owner suspected Zelaya because Zelaya's mother had asked him to park on his own side of the street and he had refused.
According to a complaint filed in the Dakota County Attorney's office, Zelaya admitted to vandalizing the car. Damage to the car in all of the incidents is estimated at 1,848.04.
If convicted in the criminal damage to property charge Zelaya could face up to five years in jail and fines of up to $10,000.
