Farmington Lions Club

Lion President Jerry Henricks presented the two Lions scholarships at the Awards Night at Farmington High School. This year's winners were Emily Nelson and Shayla Newbrough. We had many fine applications this year to choose from.

The Athlete of the Year Awards were also presented. The male athlete of the year was Darren Beenken and the female athlete of the year was Maria Kiminski. Their Lions trophies will be presented to them at our next board meeting on June 18 at Gossips.

We will have a change of officers effective July 1, 2013. The new Lions President will be Lion Jeff Thelen, the Vice president will be Lion John Rotert, Secretary will be Lion Kathy Plumley, and Treasurer will be Lion Clyde Hansen.

The next meeting for the Steering Committee is Tuesday, June 25 at 6:30PM at Farmington City Hall. Visitors are welcome. Come and see all the great things we are doing to honor, support and recognize our military connected residents!

Farmington Food Shelf

A big "Thank You" to the Farmington area community! The Farmington Food Shelf and 360 Communities appreciates your support for our recent spring food drives.

Summer brings added requests to the food shelf to provide for families with children home from school for the summer. We are still looking for volunteers to help with Saturday morning food pick up at a local grocery store north of Farmington. 2 adults are needed to pick up produce and bread and deliver and store at the Farmington Food Shelf on one Saturday a month, from 8-10 a.m.

Please contact Kris Akin at 651 402 2574 for more information. Thank you Farmington friends!

Farmington American Legion Auxiliary Unit 189

If you're out and about as part of Dew Days, please wander on past the Farmington VFW on Friday and stop to buy a hot dog from the Farmington American Legion Auxiliary's booth. We're hoping to make this a good fundraiser so we can continue our work serving veterans and our community.

Unit 189 Past President Michelle Leonard was elected Second Vice?President of the Third District, Department of Minnesota, at the May 18 district convention.

Keep up on ALA activities around Third District by joining the new Facebook page, American Legion Auxiliary Third District - Department of Minnesota.

For God and Country.

Farmington Rotary

The Rotary Club of Farmington was thrilled to present four scholarships to recently graduated Farmington High School students.

Vouchleang Chea, Rachael Peroutky and Katherine Schwoch all received the club's Service Above Self scholarships for the work they do to live out Rotary International's motto. Laura Madtson received the club's STRIVE?Scholarship. She was one of more than 20 FHS?students who participated in the STRIVE?program, which helps students who are at risk of not graduating put a renewed value on education and take responsibility for their work.

The scholarships are an important part of what the local Rotary club does, and they wouldn't be possible without Ramble Jam, Rotary's annual country music festival. This year's edition of Ramble Jam will take place Sept. 20 and 21 at the Dakota County Fairgrounds and will include national acts such as Rodney Atkens and Jerrod Niemann as well as local favorites like Rocket Club, Lost Highway and Hitchville.
