Farmington Rotary handed out a pair of scholarships at Farmington High School’s recent awards night. The club gave $250 each to Julia Lee and Jesse London. Both were involved in STRIVE, a Rotary mentoring program meant to help students refocus on their education.
Dakota County Farmington Library
The Dakota County Farmington Library’s goal, every summer, is to keep students reading, so that their comprehension levels won’t fall behind while school is closed. That’s the serious side of our motives when we offer our yearly Bookawocky Summer Reading Experience. Hopefully, what our patrons see is a just whole lot of fun. We have a full summer’s worth of programs lined up to help your family enjoy reading together: story times in the park, duct tape crafts, Big Band dance lessons for adults, Splatter Sisters signing on the main stage during Dew Days… the list is long and I encourage you to look up the full calendar of events online at http://www.co.dakota.mn.us/libraries/Pages/default.aspx
Children can track their reading on a game board that includes a few prizes along the way.
We are especially excited this summer to be nearing the completion of our remodeling project and hope to move back home sometime in August. A huge thank-you goes to the Farmington City Hall for welcoming us to their building during this remodeling project. We have truly enjoyed working more closely with the city staff members.
As we look forward to our larger library space, we’ve also re-kindled the Friends of the Farmington Library – a group of patrons who understand that an actively involved community is a great support for all libraries. To learn more about their activities, check out their new facebook page Farmington Library Friends.
