Pacheco, Hyytinen lead FHS at Faribault CC invitational
The Farmington girls cross country team made some big strides at Friday's Faribault Invitation.
The Tiger girls brought all seven varsity runners in under 17 minutes on the four-kilometer course at Alexander North Park as they improved from 15th to ninth out of 18 teams with 220 points.
Totino-Grace placed three runners in the top 10 and five in the top 25 to beat runner-up Lakeville North, 69-93.
"It was quite an improvement from last year. I'm very proud of all the girls," Farmington coach Heidi Revels said.
Junior Maricia Pacheco once again set the pace for the Tigers with a time of 15 minutes, 49 seconds that placed her 19th out of 121 runners. The clocking was 57 seconds faster than a year ago on the same course.
Sophomore teammate Sofia Chadwick was just 11 seconds back, placing 26th in 16 flat, and Maria Kiminski once again served as the team's No. 3 runner with a 38th-place time of 16:10.
Sarah Cummings followed in 64th place in 16:49 and Alexis Johnson cut 71 seconds off last year's time to come in 73rd in 16:55.
Maricella Pacheco cut 77 seconds off her time to place 78th in 16:59.
The Farmington boys finished 13th at the meet for the second straight year with a total of 327 points.
Stillwater dominated the team race with 32 points, followed by runner-up Owatonna's 89.
Sophomore Justin Hyytinen once again led the team with an 18th-place time of 16:42 on the five-kilometer course. Freshman teammate Alex Hart joined him in the front half of the 125-runner field with a 59th-place time of 17:40.
Seniors Adam Wallenta (75th, 18:06), Tyler Lerbakken (78th, 18:09) and Caleb Eiffert (97th, 18:43) rounded out the top five. Clayton Webb (111th) and Ryan Newton (121st) also competed.
Senior Dan Block ran a time of 18:52 as he continued to rehab from injury.
The Tigers compete again tomorrow at the Applejack Invitational at Aronson Park in Lakeville.
