Police have car seats to give away
The Farmington Police Department has 10 car seats to give away. Now it just needs to find people who want to take them.
Police departments around the state have an opportunity each year to get free car seats through a state grant. The Costco convertible car seats are intended for low-income families. The idea, said community service officer Rich Girard, is to make sure everybody is able to keep their kids safe in the car.
Farmington got the maximum available number of car seats this year, but so far Girard has not been able to find takers.
"We only get so many a year, and it was a very bountiful this year," Girard said. "They're just collecting dust."
Anyone interested in a car seat can call Girard at 651-280-6700.
