Ralph N. Eilen, age 82 of Hampton, died Aug. 22, 2009 at Regina Medical Center in Hastings.
Ralph was born on April 6, 1927 in Miesville, to John and Elizabeth Eilen
He was drafted into the Army in 1945 and discharged in 1948. He was also a member of the American Legion. He was self-employed in the feed business for many years including owning and operating Eilen Feed Service and also farmed in the Hampton area. He then purchased the R & R Bar in Hampton and ran it until 1971. He worked for Cenex until 1976 when he became disabled.
He was also a member of the Hampton Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Ralph loved fishing, telling stories, gambling and spending his winters in the south including Arizona and Texas.
Preceded in death by his parents, sister Theresa, daughter Jeanne, grandsons Jeffery Smith and Jacob "Jake" Eilen.
Survived by wife of 58 years, Betty (Thurmes); children Tom (Julie) Eilen, Linda (Charlie) Smith and Kathy (Joe) Wagner of Hampton, Debbie (Dale) Norberg-Meyer of Northfield, Mary (Todd) Haro of Randolph and Donna (Ray) Staus of Hastings; 13 grandchildren and three great grand children; sisters Catherine Eilen and Mary Lou (Leo) Holzmer.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Aug. 25 at St. Mathias Church in Hampton.
Pall bearers were grandchildren Jennifer Endres, Katie Roff, Patrick Eilen, Eric Norberg, Jonathan Eilen, Josh Haro, Tayler Norberg and Jessica Wagner. Honary pall bearers were Dick Mathews, Andy Wellman, Paul Gergen Sr., Barney Ostertag, Nick Stein, Lloyd Peine, Lawerence Peine, Marlin Reinardy, Martin Weinzettel, Gene Dohmen, Davy Erickson.
