Rescheduled Farmington High School jazz concert is Monday
Farmington Minnesota P.O. Box 192 / 312 Oak St. 55024

Last week’s subzero temperatures didn’t just mean classes were cancelled in Farmington schools. In the case of Monday, Jan. 27, a number of evening activities were cancelled, as well.

One of those activities was the Farmington High School jazz band concert, which has been rescheduled to Monday, Feb. 10. Director Erin Holmes is hoping to bring in a good audience for the show.

The concert features Farmington High School’s Jazz 1, Jazz 2 and Jazz 3 bands.

Two of the bands — Jazz 1 and Jazz 2 — competed at the 39th annual La Crosse Jazz Festival, she said. Under the direction of Jeff Gottwig, Jazz 1 earned third place in the Class A competition. Jazz 2, under Holmes’ direction, brought home second place honors in the Class AA division. The Feb. 10 concert will feature numbers from both competitions.

Holmes isn’t just directing bands during this upcoming concert. She’s also playing alto sax during. The jazz concert will also feature a guest band, Southern Minnesota’s REAL Big Band, an 18-piece group that’s made up of band directors and the region’s top jazz players. Southern Minnesota’s REAL Big Band will play a variety of contemporary jazz, Holmes said.

The concert is free and open to the public. It begins at 7 p.m., in the Farmington High School Recital Hall.
