Schools are closed today in the district, but that doesn't mean the learning will stop. Teachers are expected to have a day's worth of assignments up soon on Schoology, the district's online learning management platform. That should mean students' day off will be more reading and writing, less game shows and soap operas.

The district held its first flexible learning day Monday, President's Day, as a way to make up for some of the days lost eariler this winter to bitter cold. The attempt wasn't perfect. Superintendent Jay Haugen said some teachers assigned too much work for students, while others didn't assign anything at all. But he said things went well enough for the district to move ahead with the effort.

For future snow days, he said, students should expect to see assignments posted on Schoology by 10 a.m.
